A week ago I set off to Longuland to get med some “Tiger” armour, o’boy was I naive! I actually thought I was so skilled that I could get some serious loot from killing some big Longus.
Well here is my story!
When first arriving to Longuland I carried about 30k of ammo and I thought that would surely secure a few globals and with some luck a HOF. And if I could get a HOF it would probably contain some good items since I was killing the Big Longus, which I had read about on EF.
You can judge by my surprise I felt kind of cheated when all I got was Pecs, yes I mean 10-90 pec’s , no items no nothing. And most of all no globals or HOF.
I thought to myself this must be shitty hunting day, I wasted all 30k of ammo and got crap for loot.
Returning back to the outpost grumbling over the poor loot on Longus and the 300 ped loss
I decided to try the Atrax instead, so I set off with another 30k of ammo, didn’t kill many Atrax before the first global came, and the second, and the third
Happy as a “bunny” I returned to the outpost with a 200ped profit and just a little pout about the remaining 100 ped loss.
Second day I was determined to punish the crap out of the Longus, so I went back to Longuland. This time I had even checked the EF for globals on Longus and on my way up to Longuland I saw a few longu -globals so I thought this can’t be such bad longu -day.
Well by now I assume you all have guessed how it went! 30k ammo burned and saved by a single 100ped global to make almost break even.
This time I got a little better loot in avg, getting a few gold coins in the loot window.
Still I was puzzled why I didn’t get any items, not even any Longu plates or claws.
After all I was used to kill Atrox & Armax and getting all kinds of stuff in the window, what is different with the Longus?
I continued to go up to Longuland time after time, day after day and killing thousands of Longus. And slowly the loot started to increase and some small items started to drop!
Then it struck me!
I have probably caused the death of a “zillion” Atrox & Armax but before Longuland I remembered the name of every Longu I’ve ever shot.
And the Longus I did shot was Mature or Old (found on Eudoria). Now I was hunting Providers and up on Amathera
From this new insight I found new courage to face the Longus again
And that I kept doing over and over again and me theory seemed to hold water, the more Longus I killed the better the avg. loot got. I could even see the difference in maturity levels. Since I had killed most of Providers and Guardians they started to loot better stuff first, the alphas and OA’s did still loot poorly
So from a Guard I could easily pull 4-10 peds but from the Alphas I only get one and that was the pattern.
Another phenomenon I observed during this campaign was that the better the loot got, the lesser the skill gain become.
All together this is exactly as when starting on a new crafting BP!
In the beginning you receive a lot of skills and QR raises but the return is often poor unless you are highly skilled. The higher the QR and the better the return gets the less skill you gain from that BP
My conclusion
There is a “hidden value” like the QR on BP’s on every Mob and maturity level
There might also be a “Area value” like that
So take that into consideration when you go hunting, if you decide to try something new prepare to loose some Peds or to commit to the area for some time
How was the total outcome?
Well I spend like 600k of ammo in the Longuland so far!
Found a lot of Longu body parts, some Gremlin armour & some FAP’s
The loss so far is like 1k Peds, the skill gain was ~250 levels Riffle skill and a lot of other skills
Considering that a skill chip with riffle costs about 600 on the auc right now
And that gives me about 200-250 levels I fell pretty good about it
Even if it could have gone better and I could have gotten my Tiger armour
But that’s life, can’t always get what you want
