announcing....
The EU Chronicle Flower Power Treasure Hunt!
:flowers:

When I was a little girl I collected flowers... so... as I am now too old and lazy to do it myself I want you to collect them for me ;-)

Around Eudoria and Amethera are a number of impressive flowers. I want to collect photos of them all (if we all pick them they may not grow back!) and create an almanac of Entropian Flora.

There will be prizes for:-

The person that submits the most (different) flowers
Anyone that submits a rare flower i.e. There are no other submissions of that flower – I don't expect anyone to count them all!
The best submission picture - voted on forum from my selection of the best 5 - Sponsored by Freyr's Fashion

The best name and commentary - voted on forum from my selection of the best 5
the EuTropian who submits the most flowers - a special in society prize

Further to this the flowers will be named in the almanac after the first person to submit them, to seal your place in history.
You may therefore include a suggestion for the name of your flower and a Richard Attenborough (UK wildlife documentary presenter) style commentary in the email if you wish it to be considered for inclusion in the Almanac (with credit).

Small print

To be a valid entry your screen shot needs to contain a clear picture of the flower, your avatar, the time/date (press C), and the co-ordinates (press P). Also please make sure your Avatar name is visible.

Email your entries to flowerpower@purpleroom.eclipse.co.uk

Please do not post your submissions here in the forum

(You may mail flowers one at a time or on bulk – the naming will be based on date of receipt of email)
Make sure your entropia avatar name and forum username are included in the emails.

Pictures should be reduced to a reasonable file size!

I have posted an example submission below – this flower will be named after me in honour of my beauty and generosity

The closing date for the competition is 1st April 2007, though feel free to submit any new flowers after this time, and I will add them to the almanac.

I will post the winners and finalists on the forum by the 8th April, and arrange a prize giving ceremony at a convenient time on 15th April.
I will also publish the almanac as soon as is possible.

The prizes will be awarded at my discretion and all judgements and decisions are final (for example in the event of a tie) - all complaints will be ridiculed.

A “flower” is any flowering plant – this may include trees and cacti, but they must have visible flowers. Decorative/furnishing items will not be included – only “wild” flowers. Again my decision is final.

I do not know if there is a different flora at CND and the asteroid (being too poor to travel). Feel free to submit alien flowers, but they will not be counted in the quantity contest unless someone wishes to donate a prize for an “Off World” section.

Please post to this thread if you have any questions, comments or suggestions or if you would like to sponsor this event by donating a prize.

I will periodically post the leader board ;)

Good luck!

A few people asked me how to take screen shots. There is advice here. (http://www.eu-chronicle.com/forum/showthread.php?p=8719#post8719)

Also C and P were my defaults to get the location and time/date may not - you will need to check your keyboard layout if yours are different.

Also plese notice I have updated the original post to include a new prize donated by a sponsor.

Gratz to the promoter for this fascinating idea. :yeah:

Good luck everyone in the search. :search:

I didn't expect it to be so difficult to decide which were flowers and which were not. So when I decide that one is not I will post it here for everyone to see.

Tree - no flowers

Bush - no flowers

Mushrooms

If you are unsure of any please feel free to send them anyway and I will let you know what I decide.

Any chance of getting the sample pictures to work? I am still unable to see what constitutes a flower, tree, mushroom etc. Cheers.

Appologies for the delay folks - it shouldn't be long now.
I want a thrid party to audit my results (it is amazing how difficult it is to decide whether things are flowers or not!)

i could help, but that wont guarantee objectivity :D

Are you going to include find locations in the almanac too? If so, it makes sense to add duplicates - maybe in the same way pe-wiki handles mob locations?

Red Sonia

I am planning to include find locations... but it will take some time to collate them all from the co-ordinates given (my "third party" has gone out tonight - I will twist his arm over the weekend, and see if we can get the results posted.

I will be very interested to see the Almanac when it is published.

"The closing date for the competition is 1st April 2007"

now I get it. :hehe: Good prank, I'll try and think of one for next year. :D

Just curious, who was the lucky winner of the clothes?

A Full Set of Skinned Clothes (M or F) from Freyr's Fashion for the winner of the Best Picture Category.

As we had so few entries I didn't claim them/give them out. I was planning to offer a prize for the best photo when I finally get round to posting the results... ho hum... my house isn't finished yet either... [help]

(Oh.. also no one from EuTropians entered... so I am kept that prize!)

Hopefully Freyr will be so generous when we start some of the new competitions we have planned - eventually - some day...

(or perhaps I better finish the house first before I really get into trouble)

I'd still be interested in these pics when I get around to the almanac pages - espcially of the 'newer' plants seen around since the new VU
