Check this Google: http://www.blackle.com/
Using this site instead of Google, allows hundreds of MW of energy to be saved just because the screen is Black and not White, according to a recent research. Google is being used from quite an important number of people around the globe. If you use Blackle instead of Google, then you contribute in saving energy. If you can handle Black, then give it a try ;)

Nice find phoenix, but I've gotta say that IMHO as an energy saving initiative this is even worse than the 'switch your TV off intead of standby' argument.
Practically it saves next to nothing in terms of real energy usage, their shows results are a bland and unqualified calculation that takes a few assumptions and multiplier effects to produce a startling - but sadly untrue result. Don't take my word for it, the Junk Science (http://www.junkscience.com) website shows you in simple math terms how this is achevied for political effect
If these folks spent the human energy on something more worthwhile, rather than trying to scrape the sides of the barrel, they might have come up with something really useful.
As an example here is one for you: Throw away your mains powered alarm clock and get a battery powered one. The energy saved will offsett you leaving your TV on standby all year :)

Indeed you are right! I also checked Wikipedia and actually the energy saved is way too little. But if you like Black and you do not use Google's extra features, then it's nice! ;)
PS. I totally agree with you! :D

Oh, and the night light idea sounds great.... oh but as long as it doesn't cast any shadows in the room, cos they are spooky and then I would be scared of the dark AND scared of the nightlight. :hehe:
