Ok all, just a little poll to see if people plan to use Xfire. I'm not sure either way, so I thought I'd ask everyone else :D

Not sure what Xfire is? See MA's announcement here (http://www.eu-chronicle.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4721).

Erach.

Here's my rationale:

EU is the only online game I play so what would I benefit by using X-Fire? It's only more software to choke my poor processor with so I voted , NO. If someone else would like ot use it, that is entirely their choice.

I tried using Pe-Ass as well, but I think that I lack the memory to accomodate that. So does my computer.

Can you add an option to the poll "What is Xfire?"... ok, sorry.. read Burgerman's post now.

I have used it since summer, don't really use it as chat but more to log the number of hours I spend playing it.

Nothing special with it, nice but thats all.

The good thing imo is the game clock. It makes me think a little about how many hours I play and in periods reduce them, if Im not free lots ofc like this week, ehh 60+ hours

I'll give it a try as I play two online games (not sure if it is compatible with the other online but... oh well, who cares?) and see what it's like. ;)

I've had frinds try to get me to install it in the past, but i don't play any games that it supports.... untill now. I installed it and i've got to say the screenshot feature is alot nicer than the other one i found. hotkeyd to a free mouse button makes screenshots a breeze.

I think you push Scroll Lock and S, or something like that...

I have Xfire installed now. My name is 'erach' on it. I'm not entirely sure there's any point to it though :-)

Nah, I see no point in it at all.

I'm undecided, as I don't know if other people always knowing where, and when, I am in cyberspace, is a good thing. If I want them to know, then I would tell them anyway. I already use the ventrilo voice chat with others, and this combined with the text chat windows is good enough.

Xfire is well know in other gaming coominutys, not only by its good reputation though
There have been alot discussions about security issues around this software
Not sure of what "crap" the latest versions comes with, but imho xfire is a "adware" with the intent to map your gaming habits and later sell that info to "3rd part partners"

I tried Xfire a while, but got tired of it and uninstalled the program. I only need MSN, and I'm barely online there lately.

I had it installed when I played WoW and Battlefield to see the hours I was online but with Entropia itīs about so much else so I donīt bother with re-installing it after my hard drive format...

And of course the whole security breach thing that happened about a year ago I think is definitely not winning me over again :o

So my vote was "No I will not use it"

That is a nice point! Never thought of it that way! But then again... I donīt have that many on my FL that are truly wanting such communication lol

I had used it some time ago and finally after a few years logged back on it last week. Decent program does not use too much memory and serves a function.

I installed X-fire, messed with it for a week or so, uninstalled it. The help features are ineffective. The thing ran in the background but was not available ingame. Or, because I couldn't figure it out well enough to operate it (help features?).
It may have some value to someone else but it seemed like more clutter on my C:drive so I dumped it...

Same here. I couldn't find out how to enable it ingame. It isn't that much of a help as well so good decision of getting rid of it. Perhaps later it might be of some use if it is enhanced with something worth in EU

I have had many encounters with adware in the past, so this decides the issue for me...
