View Full Version : Land Grab Warm Up - Mini Report

At 12:15 today I logged in to get ready to watch the land grab. I had no intention of participating, but I still felt the need to stock up on plenty of BLP and Laser ammunition. I also took a good chunk of ME, since I knew I'd be jumping around a lot. I took my armor off - no need to incur decay unnecessarily I thought.
After taking a look at a map I decided to start with LA-18. It was nearest to a TP and I figured I could probably run there. Well, the Atrox thought otherwise and sent me straight to the revival on the eastern side of LA-08. Fortunately this was the revival point for LA-18 (I guess they turn off the revival point in the LAs when the LG is taking place? How does this work in the full event?), and I met a few other people there:

In the bottom left you can see Mr & Mrs Serious :-)
From here I headed south east in to LA-18. It was clear as I approached the marker that Warants were running the show. They were quickly despatching anyone that came near (apart from some allied societies, it seems). I guess it's sort of an honour to get killed by these guys - so my thanks to Stryker, Skalman and Bozzo. This is the closest I managed to get:
3222
After a lot of pain I decided to give up and head over to LA-04. I made the jump from Palm's Corner and landed in a herd of Equus. Next thing I know I'm reviving with the people from LA-04 somewhere on the edge of OLA-17. There were a few people here too, including an MA official:
3223
I made a jump to where I thought the land marker was, but managed to miss by quite a way. This was probably quite fortunate, or I'd have been toast. I cautiously approach the area, but nobody seemed interested in me. To the south there was a ridge where people had begun to gather to watch the action. I took a seat and relaxed:
3224
More and more people arrived, including one of the EU Guides:

The battle raged on for hours. Below me in the battlefield people were running around constantly, firing missles and guns at an alarming rate. They were dying quickly, but teleporting back in at about the same rate. There was also a steady stream of spectators deciding to get too close to the action. The ground was littered with bodies:
3226
To my right I noticed a familiar name - it was Deathifier, the owner of Treasure Island. He didn't seem to be particpating, just watching like the rest of us.
3227
Menace to Society had been holding LA-04 since I'd arrived. They'd killed everyone that had challenged them, and seemed to be getting bored. That wasn't good news for us, since we were the only other green dots on their radars. They turned towards us from down on the battlefield and opened up a barage of rockets:
3228
Many died in the attack, but I seemed invincible. Maybe it was the fact I was sitting down and the hill was protecting me, or maybe it was some kind of bug. I just sat and watched the missles exploding around me.
Fortunately, before any of the attackers got round to investigating, a battle cry erupted from the east. Another society, Art of War, had decided to invade. They appeared on top of the hill and unleashed a voley of rockets towards the land marker.
3229
Menance to Society weren't having any of it though, and responded in equal force. This battle raged on for some time, with rockets going everywhere. Other societies were appearing in smaller numbers, and joining in on one side or the other. I just sat quietly on the hill and watched.

Star had been complaining for a while about an invincible player that had been running around taunting them. I'd had the sense to just keep quiet, but he didn't. An MA official came to investigate the matter:
3231
After a few quiet words the player logged out and back in. He looked around for a minute, got his bearings, and then fell to the ground as he took a few shots to the head from Jan. Guess that bug got fixed then.
3232
Somewhere in the middle of all the action MA decided to release a patch. This caused a few problems for those that had CTDs since they had to wait for the update to download before the could rejoin the action. Star wasn't impressed.
I spotted a few other people from this forum coming, and unfortunately dying. Here's CANTBE:

And MoH:
3234
But a more surprising visitor was a Thorio who wanted to come watch too, but it seemed he wasn't very welcome:
3235
The man in green in that shot was acting as a walking trade terminal (with a fee, of course). He was attempting to sell supplies to the players below, but without much luck. I mean, who would come to a landgrab without enough ammunition? :-)

Towards the end of the battle things were getting tough for Menace to Society. The land grab had been running for around 4 hours, and tiredness must have been taking it's toll. On a few occasions the land marker went red and they had to rush back to claim it.
I didn't know what was going on at LA-18 at this point, but it later transpired that Warants secured it. I guess they were feeling confident, since a few of them, including Skalman and Neomaven, decided to show up at LA-04 to join in the fight. They dealt a blow to the defending forces, and at the end only two of Menace to Society were left standing:
3236
But they'd done it! The marker had gone blue and the fight was over. The crowd had grown and there was much cheering and congratulating going on.
3237
It had been a long fight, but I can only imagine how hard it must have been for the players involved. Gratz to them all!
My last shot is of the victors standing by their new fertilizer station.

Hope you all enjoyed my report. :-)
Here's a link to a video of the event (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SfKLo-_SBM) that I found over on EF.

While the land grabs are going on, I've added this Land Areas forum to those that display on the home page.
So, anyone reporting Land grab, post in this forum and it will appear as news!
Special kudos and thanks due for anyone willing to post video...

I used XFire for the screenshots, and it has (beta) support for doing videos. But I was worried it'd crash, then I'd have to relog and lose my invincibility :D.

The picture with the thorio is very funny.
Mr Thorio looks like he is at an outdoor party or concert, and has passed out from too much booze. :hehe:
